The Transit Alliance’s Unlock Gridlock campaign advocates for a region-wide one percent sales tax dedicated to transit expansion that will be removed once The Big Move has been implemented.

The Toronto Transit Alliance is a nonpartisan group of business and community leaders committed to subway and transit expansion in Toronto. With congestion estimated at costing the region $6 billion per year in lost productivity, the Transit Alliance proposes the 1% Solution to get the region out of gridlock. The tax is proposed as a first step in a host of revenue tools to raise the funds necessary to implement The Big Move.

The Transit Alliance hosts  transit symposiums to build support for the the one percent sales tax. You can watch a live stream of the symposium, “‘The Big Move’: A Regional Solution to Unlocking Gridlock” taking place April 30 at 5:30pm. Panelists include: Carol Wilding, President and CEO of the Toronto Region Board of Trade; Bruce McCuaig, CEO of Metrolinx; Cherise Burda, Ontario Director at the Pembina Institute; and Mitzie Hunter, CEO of Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance.
