What does health have to do with transit?
Toronto Public Health adds health leaders to the growing list of voices supporting transportation investment in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area with the release of “Prescription: A Healthy Transportation System”. In collaboration with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, the statement calls upon governments to take action and invest in healthy transportation in the GTHA.
The health impacts of our current transportation system outlined by Toronto Public Health cost the region nearly $6 billion in health care costs and lost productivity each year. Toronto Public Health calls for a transportation system that promotes healthy choices and reduces pollution. Building a system that contributes to more walkable and bikeable communities reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
